2002-01-13 - 8:40 a.m. - Hell is a horrid place

Had an odd thing yesterday. Let me start off by putting in the context.

The girls have found the Tom & Huck movie that I inherited from a previous job. They have watched it twice this weekend. Yesterday morning, Bekah was sitting at the lunch table and we were talking about it. She said, so mommy, what happened to Injun Joe? I said he died. She said he's in heaven? I said no, he's in Hell. She said, "Hell? What's Hell?" ..... My jaw dropped. You mean, in the last almost 5 years, no one has talked to you about Hell?...That got me to thinking. We've really attended mostly Baptist style churches, which tend to focus more on the positives of Heaven, than the negatives of Hell. But still, to never even have been told that Satan lives in Hell, and if we are sinners, will take us to live with him for eternity? The idea just bowled me over. I am quite confident that by the time I was 5 years old, I had a pretty clear understanding of where the bad people went when they died.

Anyway, I guess I need to expose them to a little more Hell-Fire and Brimstone, and a little less grace. They need the balance.
