2001-12-20 - 6:32 a.m. - Peanut Brittle |
Well, Sunday we (my siblings, parents & spouses) made about 400-500 peanut brittle patties. DH took some to work this week and people started asking him for the recipe. He just gave them the look and said "Unless you have a team and a ton of time, you don't REALLY want to make peanut brittle." HA! Guess it wasn't as great an experience for him as it was for...., um,...., someone else. Seriously, it was fun the first couple-three hours, but about the 5th hour in, we were all dragging. This recipe has been in the family for as long as I can remember, and really, it is only my mother who knows it all perfectly. The rest of us have to rely upon her telling us when we should be where to do what with it. I just hopes that Roo picks up enough on it to be able to coach me through it someday. The girls spent the night with Grammy last night and are going to go make Christmas cookies with her and Nana this morning. I hope that they have fun. DH and I are taking Friday off to do all the Christmas shopping I should have been doing the last year. Of course, I spent most of our time and money getting out of the old house and into the new house, so Christmas is really more of an afterthought this year. I mean, not the religous implications, all the decorating & gifts. I really wish I could convince most of the family (mine & Todd's) that gifts are not necessary. All of us are middle- to upper-class and there is not really anything we could give or get that would make any impact on our quality of life. I would just love to get together and enjoy each other's company, do some baking, play chicken-foot and 42, and forgo all the hassel of trying to find a gift that someone is not going to want to take back the minute they get near a Target. Well, I ramble, and really need to get to work. Until next time..... |
