2001-08-20 - 12:02 p.m. - Deal might go through, afterall

Well, we all had a good weekend.

Friday night, Grammy kept the girls, and they enjoyed playing with the puppies. Grammy said that Bekah got up in the middle of the night and wouldn’t go back to sleep because she wanted to play with the puppies. Then, Saturday afternoon, when Grammy brought them home, she started begging us to adopt Bruno, one of the puppies. When I told her no, she started crying and just almost weeping. Like she was loosing her best friend to not get to keep the puppy dog. I finally told her to ask her daddy. I figure I’m going to wind up with a dog, either way, and it will be Todd who will choose, so if she can wear him down, then we’ll get one for free. If not, I’m sure it’ll cost me a fair amount of money ‘cause he’s going to want a hunting dog.

Saturday, we had a guy come and look at our house, twice. The second time he brought a trusted friend. It’d be nice to have a solid back-up contract on the house in case this one really does fall through. DH tells me I’m jumping the gun, and not to count out the current contract quite yet. Of course, we can’t get a hold of the other people that wanted to buy the house. DH calls, but they won’t call back. I think they’ve moved on. Too bad. Our contract on our future house should be executed today. They finally tracked down the estranged husband and he signed the contract over the weekend. So, we’ve got a pretty sure thing there, if we can get our house sold. Right now, both closings are set for Sept. 7th. Sure hope it works!

Natalie has been having problems at school. The director, this morning, told me about a kicking, screaming fit she threw last Friday, and how she bit another kid when they were fighting over a toy. I know she had a rough week, last week, with the new schedule and all. But this has GOT to stop. We were pretty firm with her all weekend, and I hope that I’ve convinced her that she can NOT always get what she wants. Poor kid. She screamed for the better half of an hour yesterday, insisting that she wasn’t tired and didn’t need a nap, the whole time rubbing her eyes. The fact is, she had fallen asleep on the way home from lunch, so I knew that she was tired. Also, she had been up since 7 a.m. She finally fell asleep and was a MUCH happier kid when she woke up. She was pretty good at the grocery store last night, and seemed to enjoy playing with the kids Saturday night. Both of the girls had jobs after I got the groceries unloaded last night. Bekah put all the canned goods away, and Natalie picked up all the plastic bags and put them in the trash. (I know, we should recycle.) Also, we’ve discovered that if Natalie starts to choke on something, she’ll wind up throwing up. She’s done it twice in the last couple of weeks. It’s like her coughs are so much deeper than normal, and it causes her to cough up her stomach contents as well.

We spent Saturday afternoon & evening at Naomi’s, and the kids got to go swimming. Then us adults went out to the Melting Pot for Jen’s birthday. TALK ABOUT EXPENSIVE! YIPES! We haven’t spent that much on food since our 5th anniversary! We all decided that next time, we’ll each buy a fondue pot and bring the stuff to someone’s house for a fondue party. It would be cheaper.

DH just called to say that he spoke with our buyer’s mortgage broker, and is finally starting to feel o.k. about the whole deal. He said that they ordered the appraisal, and that is a good sign. He doesn’t think that the broker would have ordered a $350 appraisal, if they didn’t think the deal would close, because then the broker would have to write-off the cost. We both know that the broker is trying to figure out more ways to make more money on the deal, not loose money on it! Evidently, the lender has given conditional approval to our buyer, so if he can meet all the conditions, and the broker thinks he can, then the deal should close at or before the 7th of September. HORAY!

My sister, the moving expert, said that I should start packing the bookcases & wall hangings first. I figure if I try to pack a box a night the rest of this week, and then pack some more on the weekend, and all Labor Day weekend, we’d be ready to move as soon as our other house is ready to move into. Hopefully, that deal will go pretty smoothly, and as the seller has already moved out, we can move in the day of closing.

Well, this has gotten pretty long.
